Religion, Values and Ethics E-Magazine – a termly magazine
Welcome to the sixth issue of the e-magazine for 11-14 year old pupils. In this issue the articles will be discussing Worship and Places of Worship
This termly e-magazine is intended to promote skills and understanding within Religion, Values and Ethics within the Humanities Area of Learning and Experience, placing religion in a broad and relevant context. These articles will be cross-curricular and will offer a stimulus for further discussion in the classroom.
It also aims to encourage learners to be inspired, excited and challenged and applies them to a constructive life in the contemporary world.
- The materials will show how beliefs and teachings influence people's lives within communities in Wales and globally;
- The materials will use the 'Welsh dimension' as the starting point rather than translating or adapting the English perspective.
- The materials will develop investigative and independent learners, nurturing ambitious and capable learners, who are ready to learn throughout life.
- The materials will develop a wide range of reading skills and will be based on the type of skills tested by the PISA tests.
As you will see within the e-magazine, there will be:
- At least 3 articles (accompanied by images) relating to specific themes each term - these may complement national / international themes or reflect current religious issues.
- The 3 articles are differentiated so that they are suitable for readers of all abilities and include activities and details of appropriate extended tasks (within the teacher guides).
- A glossary / key vocabulary where learners will be able to find the meaning of specific terms.
- It will be possible to click / hover over keywords within articles for a simple definition.
- A teacher's guide highlighting activities associated with each article offering a list of tasks in Word / PDF that supports the four purposes and the progression steps for the Humanities Area of Learning and Experience.
- Links to beliefs and practices (links to external web pages) to ensure readers receive accurate, up-to-date and impartial information on religious beliefs, teachings and practices.
- ‘Pause for thought’ activities and other 'podcasts' with details of extended tasks for learners.
- Calendar of religious celebrations / dates.
The articles (in Word / PDF format) can be navigated from the front page. There will also be a search box here where the user can find articles from back issues.
